A crew from the TV show Mythbusters was staging an "experiment" in the town of Dublin, California. They were trying to fire a cannonball into some large water containers at a bomb disposal range. Unfortunately, the Mythbusters crew seriously underestimated the dangerous power of a stray cannonball.

According to a newspaper report, "The cantaloupe-sized cannonball missed the water, tore through a cinder-block wall, skipped off a hillside and flew some 700 yards east." But that didn't end the damage. The cannonball "bounced in front of home on [a quiet street], ripped through the front door, raced up the stairs and blasted through a bedroom …. [Then] it exited the house, leaving a perfectly round hole in the stucco, crossed six-lane Tassajara Road, took out several tiles from the roof of a home on Bellevue Circle and finally slammed into [a family's] beige Toyota minivan in a driveway on Springdale Drive."

Regarding the power of the stray cannonball, the owner of the minivan said, "It's shocking—anything could have happened." A spokesmen for the local sheriff's department also commented, "Crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy. You wouldn't think it was possible."

Stray words also have tremendous power to rip through communities and lives. Like a cannonball, they create "crazy" damage that you wouldn't think was possible.

I recently preached a message for the beginning of the year titled “Make this the Year of Blessing.” Often what we say and do can go contrary to the desired results and things get out of control.

Look at the newspapers, television and radio call in shows and see what the way of our land is. A constant stream of complaining, criticism and demands for justice! Rather than blessing we even curse the government and other people. Churches and leaders we don’t agree with become targets of attack. The church is rocked with fighting within and without. Demons seemingly have free access. Why?  We Reap What We Sow! CONSEQUENCES OF CHRISTIANS CURSING AND NOT BLESSING!  When we sow judgement we will reap judgement to ourselves. We have left grace and mercy behind and entered back into law, from which we reap justice.  Bitterness and unforgiveness reap judgment as well. We would do well and remember the words of Jesus in Luke 6:37 when He says: "Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. NKJV

Don’t let your words or judgements go out of control. The potential damage is not just in others, but maybe in you.

                What is your Giant? 05/26/2011

What is your giant? Are you facing a crisis? Is it a problem at home, at work, or in your family? The only way to face a giant is to do as David did: remember the lion and the bear. By remembering God’s faithfulness to him in his past crises, David could go up against Goliath without fear.
                How Discouragement Enters
Every person with a vision from God will have serious opportunities to become discouraged as they reach for the fulfillment of their vision.
Indeed, just as Israel was given a promise from God and provisions to help their return, so the Almighty has given promises and provisions to us. Your vision may be for your personal transformation, or it may be a God-inspired desire to see your family or church brought into spiritual renewal.  You may even possess a citywide vision or a holy passion to see your nation turned toward God.  Yet, like the Jews, we can be just as vulnerable to discouragement and its effects.

How does discouragement gain access to our souls? The answer is simple: We start evaluating our lives based upon information compiled by our senses instead of assessing our position based upon the promise and help of God.
However, I don't mean we are unaware of the difficulties of our faith assignment, but that God is good and He is not hindered by our present limitations.

When David volunteered to fight Goliath, in 1 Samuel 17:33-36, Saul said to David, "You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth."  But David said to Saul, "Your servant used to keep his father's sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God." NKJV

David knew the danger he was facing against Goliath. He wasn’t some novice, a naïve kid full of himself and looking for a fight. No, David was simply remembering his past deliverances. What God did for him! And now he looked his enemy squarely in the eye and stated, "The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." 1 Samuel 17:37 (NKJV)

What are we remembering and focusing on?
Facing the giants in life and being able to have victory, comes only by remembering the lion and the bear. It comes when you’re able to recall the incredible faithfulness of God, and the past victories he has given you. You can’t face a giant until you’re able to envision and understand the majesty and glory of God in your life.
We are an open book to the world around us. What we do and say. We are always imparting something. Faith or fear! You parents and even if you are not a parent, what we impart is critical. Our passion for God, our insight into the supernatural, is paramount to where the next generation will go.
Listen, your passion for God, those you come into contact with in unity and purpose and focus. What you pass on to them has the capacity to exponentially increase what you carry. David passed on faith and raised up giant killers.

It saddens me to see the great number of people who feel they have to clean up their lives before they meet the only One who cleanses. It’s an impossible task that creates pressure and striving for a relationship with God.
Just being able to follow, without distraction, our hearts’ desire to know God—that’s what causes more transformation than any list of rules found in religion.
                 WHY POWER?
It would be incorrect for me to say that everything we experience is for the sake of others. That simply isn’t true. Some think that God will heal them so that a relative or friend will get saved.
Of course it is a great side benefit of a miracle that others are touched by God’s goodness. But it distorts the issue.
God delights in us and showers us with blessings just because we belong to Him.
He delights over us and gives us access to realms 0f God simply for our pleasure.
Yet there is also an over riding principle in this kingdom: it is nearly impossible to experience more of God and keep it to ourselves.
As stated by Peter and John:  in  Acts 4:20 “For we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
This is the nature of a life with God—giving is the most natural thing to do. The kingdom of God must never be reduced to talk, ideas, and principles.
The kingdom of God is power.
Unlimited power has been granted to those who encounter Him over and over again.
Each encounter works deeper in our hearts, bringing about the needed transformation so that we might be entrusted with more of Him.
The more profound the work of the Spirit is within us, the more profound the manifestation of the Spirit flowing through us.
A glass of water is not really full until it overflows.  Similarly, the fullness of the Spirit in our lives is measured by the overflow of the Spirit through us in order to touch the world around us.

I don’t know what is on your mind but I have had several calls from people I know, and people who are not Christian, asking me what I think about this end of the world prediction. My answer is the same. No one knows. But it could be the end for you today. The bible says in James 4:14 “whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. “ NKJV

                What are your thoughts?
